When you’ve reached the intermediate level, why not start reading a book in Maltese? You can still use your dictionary if you need to… Try with the following books.
Some classic books translated into Maltese: the picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Jane Austin’s Emma, and Mark Twain’s The adventures of Tom Sawyer. It’s easy to get an English copy, so you can compare both texts.
Also try other authors translated into Maltese: Desmond Morris’s Catlore, Half Bad by Sally Green, Herbert George Wells wrote The Island of Doctor Moreau.
In non-fiction, there is a book by Tony Cutajar and one of Joe Bugeja about the history of Malta.
In the children’s books, try Norman Borg’s novel and David Pace’s book for smaller children.
Daniel Charles Saliba has written two books in Maltese with the English translation just next to it.
